Glaucoma and Cataract Surgeon New York Eye Surgery Center Bronx, New York
This session will discuss current microinvasive glaucoma surgical (MIGS) options available for lowering intraocular pressure in patients with glaucoma. Case presentations will be used to highlight various clinical scenarios in which certain MIGS technologies would be appropriate and effective.
Treatment algorithms for the use of various technologies will be discussed with the strengths and weaknesses of each type of MIGs. Situations in which a canal opening procedure (goniotomy) versus a canal dilating procedure (canaloplasty) versus a trabecular bypass stent or subconjunctival stent. The place of endoscopic or trannscleral laser cyclophotocoaguation as additional options will be addressed as well.
Secondary issues such as the presence of cataract and the need for using certain devices in combination with cataract surgery will be addressed. The Impact of reimbursement as well as factors facilitating the glaucoma portion of the procedure will be highlighted.
New information on the potential use of combined MIGs in certain clinical situations will be provided. Various combinations such as stents with goniotomies and canal procedures will be discussed as well as the combination of laser treatments at the same time as these other procedures. The impact of cataract surgery on the post-operative course of MIGs surgery as well as the Impact of MIGs on the post-operative course of cataract surgery will be presented.
Learning Objectives:
To provide an overview of current concepts in microincisional glaucoma surgery (MIGS) and the rational for this surgery
To update the clinician in the approaches for MIGS, stenting, canaloplasty and goniotomy
To review specific clinical and technical approaches and pearls to MIGS using surgical video and case presentations
