Presentation Description: Aker Offshore Wind would be pleased to present on the innovative NextWind project which aims to use digital tools to improve the reliability, safety, efficiency, and sustainability of floating offshore wind farms. This project – funded by the California Energy Commission – explores how to use data-gathering technologies on and around the floating offshore wind platform to create a digital copy of not only what is happening on the platform, but in the surrounding ecosystem. We would like to share new data showing how this data gathering system can be used to: • Improve operational efficiency • Closely monitor equipment reliability and integrity • Inform the industry’s understanding of the relationship between floating offshore wind farms and the surrounding environment • Lower operational costs We believe taking a data-driven approach to operations and environmental monitoring can help the industry create smarter and more sustainable floating offshore wind farms. We also view this project as a value-add for the industry as we envision creating a secure data sharing environment enabling industry and academia to drive product improvements and increased environmental impact understanding for State and Federal authorities and other interest groups.
Learning Objectives:
...understand the ways in which a digital twin of a wind farm can provide insight into how assets are operating, helping to make informed decisions on operations & maintenance.
...identify ways digital solutions for environmental monitoring better inform of marine and avian life interactions with wind farms in comparison to traditional monitoring methods.
