VP, Environment and Offshore Wind NIRAS Aarhus, Midtjylland, Denmark
Presentation Description: Increased speed in establishment of OW. Necessary? Yes! But how? Countries around the world are embracing offshore wind. The global installed offshore wind capacity is expected to reach more than 600 gigawatts (GW) by 2050. An expansive growth in renewable energy, including offshore wind, is needed to address fatal climate change. Unfortunately, in many countries there is inertia in the process of consenting and permitting, and it often takes 10-15 years from a political decision to an OWF is in operation. There are many reasons for this; including resources, complicated processes and complaints, tender processes as well as lack of acceptance. NIRAS has looked at permitting/licensing processes in a number of countries (US, APAC and Europe), and we work extensively with consenting and permitting globally. These global experiences will be presented, so that we can jointly learn from each other and in that way find the most effective way forward.
Learning Objectives:
Upon completion, participants will have an overview of planning, permitting and consenting procedures globally.
Upon completion, participants are familiar with best practices, and examples that demonstrate how efficiently we can actually develop OW, if the willingness is there from authorities, developers and other stakeholders.
Upon completion, it is the hope that we can jointly see a way forward that makes it possible to speed up the permitting/licensing process, and by that hopefully timely address climate changes.
