With a long and varied career in nursing and nursing education, Debbie Lyles received her BSN from the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, South Carolina, an MN from the University of South Carolina, and a PhD in post-secondary and adult education from Capella University. Areas of clinical experience as a staff nurse and Clinical Nurse Specialist include pediatric critical care, pediatric oncology, and home health. Her experience in nursing education includes RN-to-BSN and Associate Degree Nursing, and Licensed Practice Nursing, where she served in faculty positions and various senior administrative positions. Active at the local and state levels, she served on many advisory boards and committees.
As a nurse educator, her areas of passion and expertise include student policies, curriculum development and implementation, accreditation, and program evaluation, with presentations at the local, regional, and national level. Active in the accreditation process, she served as a site visitor, site visitor chair, review panel member, and appeal panel member. Research interests include simulation, specifically capstone simulation experience and interdisciplinary simulation. Most recently she has been immersed in Next Generation NCLEX content, with a focus on assisting faculty to understand best practices for integration in teaching and learning. In addition, she has been a member of Sigma Theta Tau and received several recognitions of teaching excellence throughout her career. Dr. Lyles has been with ATI since 2017 and is currently serving as Director of Consulting.
