This workshop is presented by members of the OADN Simulation Committee.

The workshop will have four parts with the theme of integrating NGN-style questioning into aspects of simulation, whether it is pre-briefing, debriefing, or inclusion in a traditional classroom. The workshop will close with a moderated discussion among the presenters and participants on integration of NGN activities throughout the curriculum using simulation.

The interactive workshop will include a variety of topics focused on simulation and NGN integration. Simulation activities will be discussed within the framework of Healthcare Simulation Standards of Best PracticeTM. Topics include discussion of pre-briefing to include preparation and briefing activities with NGN integration. Debriefing activities will be discussed with an opportunity to model best practice approach using a popular debriefing framework, integrating NCSBN CJMM Layer 3 components. Strategies to incorporate simulation into the traditional classroom will focus on how to incorporate a free virtual product with active learning strategies with NGN formative assessment items. The last part of the workshop with be an opportunity for participants to actively participate in a discussion with industry experts in simulation.

Learning Objectives:

Recognize best practices using pre-briefing and debriefing strategies to include integration of formative NGN activities within simulation.
Identify options for integrating simulation into the traditional classroom with engaging activities focusing on formative assessment using NGN style questions.
Have the knowledge to integrate a variety of interactive simulation activities with a NGN focus to develop clinical judgment.
