At a time when health systems are evaluating the rising importance of Registered Nurses in the healthcare delivery system, they are also facing one of the biggest nursing shortages in our history. Associate Degree programs create an efficient and effective path into professional nursing allowing for licensure as a registered nurse within two years or less. Associate Degree programs also more quickly dive into nursing specific curriculums making it easier for students to enter the workforce as Nurse Technicians compounding the pace, efficiency and effectiveness of the training. As hospitals and health systems work to manage the financial and clinical challenges we face in the post-COVID 19 environment, the role of the Associate Degree Nurse is more important than ever. It's imperative for health systems and colleges of nursing to partner fully to ensure access to programs, curriculum development and a pipeline of faculty. It's time for a new relationship between colleges of nursing and health systems. Together we can grow the profession of nursing!
