702 - Hot Off the Press! 2022 Annual Assessment of ADN Program Faculty and Compensation

According to the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (2020), faculty shortages at nursing schools are limiting student capacity, at a time in which the need for nurses continues to grow. The nursing faculty shortage for baccalaureate and graduate programs in nursing demonstrated a shortage of nursing faculty when the "Special Survey on Vacant Faculty Positions" was complete and released in October 2019. A total of 1,637 faculty vacancies were identified in baccalaureate and graduate programs across the country. This data is useful to a portion of the nursing education world, but with almost 40% of nurses entering the profession at the associate's degree level (AACN, 2021), a better understanding of nursing faculty data for community colleges is necessary. To meet the need for this data, a survey was conducted to gather input from 1100 community college programs across the nation.

The online survey sent to community colleges collected data related to student populations, faculty salaries, benefits, workload and vacancies in nursing programs. From this data, the research team identified trends to share with community colleges to provide support for policy, legislation, and initiatives for colleges to expand the nursing faculty workforce. Strategies to address the faculty needs of community colleges will be presented with data provided to support regional initiatives. The goal of this presentation is to provide useful data and strategies that can be utilized by community colleges to create solutions to increase the nursing workforce.
