902 - Building Resilience in Nursing Students and the Nursing Curriculum

The National Academy of Medicine has released their report on The Future of Nursing 2020-2030 which sets a blueprint for the profession. Their third recommendation was for all organizations who teach nursing students to immediately focus on their well-being. On October 3, 2022, The NAM presented the National Plan for Health Workforce Well-Being and the first priority area addresses the need for a culture of well-being to be integrated into curricula and the learning environments so students can thrive. See how one program altered their nursing philosophy and curriculum exemplars to focus on nurse well-being. Hear about the strategies that build resilience to reduce burnout and to promote well-being. Come discuss measures that can be practiced in the classroom or the clinical setting to assist your students across the curriculum. Hear feedback from students from a pilot study (n=16) who engaged in resilience-building strategies, measured by the Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale, during post-conference sessions after a day in the intensive care unit. Hear comments from senior students who participated in a two-hour resilience-building program. We will practice a few strategies and discuss your ideas for making nurse well-being come alive in your curriculum.
