Virtual Reality (VR) has been shown to educate and enlighten users toward many different topics and learning levels. More than just content inside a headset, VR provides realistic, high-impact experiences to improve performance of nursing skills. Critical thinking is improved each time the learner accesses VR content. The three learning levels in each skill include Guided, Expert, and Exam modes. These levels assist the learners in gaining confidence with each attempt. Learners in VR get on-demand access to real-world scenarios in a safe environment. The AI component of virtual reality challenges students to think deeper and more strategically, improving their performance. VR is part of Immersive learning consisting of performing skills, simulations, and activities/games. By using VR the ASN students receive content that is consistent, realistic, and accelerates learning experiences supported by evidence based practice.
Learning Objectives:
Identify innovative applications of technology through Virtual Reality (VR) to provide clinical learning experiences for the pre-licensure students at ASN level.
Identify three benefits of VR for ASN Students and for the School of Nursing.
Describe the role of the faculty and the Immersive Learning Team in implementing simulation through VR using EBP.
