Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is a global health crisis in need of safe and effective drugs for prevention, as well as treatments to help delay the onset, slow progression, improve cognition, and reduce behavioral disturbances. There are currently several clinical trials focused on the management of AD, with such agents in development as disease-modifying therapies, symptomatic cognitive enhancing treatments, and drugs targeting neuropsychiatric symptoms. This session will review some of the medications and behavioral interventions that may provide hope to patients and loved ones dealing with the devastating diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease.

Understand BPSD in Alzheimer’s disease, including symptom characteristics, epidemiology, and patient and caregiver burden
Discuss the assessment and treatment of BPSD in Alzheimer’s disease, including nonpharmacologic strategies and pharmacologic strategies
