Suicide is the second leading cause of death in youth ages 10-24 and it is estimated that there are 25 suicide attempts for one death by suicide. The COVID-19 pandemic has exasperated the already urgent crisis. We will share two tools, Hope Squad and ParentGuidance.org, and explain how parents and schools can work together to prevent youth suicide as they face evolving and increasing mental health challenges, discuss issues of access to mental health care and explore tools to reduce barriers to care, including those in rural or low-income communities.
Learning Objectives:
Youth suicide risk factors and how schools and parents can work together to address them.
Acquire tools that reduce barriers to mental health care access for students and parents, including those in rural or low-income communities.
Create an action plan to utilize available resources and curriculum to support families and improve student mental wellness.
