Not much has changed about how substance use disorder (SUD) services are delivered in Missouri since the Comprehensive Substance Treatment and Rehabilitation (CSTAR) program model was developed in late 1980s. CSTAR transformation began in March 2019 with brainstorming sessions with SUD treatment providers, the Missouri Behavioral Health Council (MBHC) and the Department of Mental Health. We will highlight an antiquated treatment system was renovated and how Gibson Recovery Center participated in and implemented the changes.

Learning Objectives:

How the MBHC leveraged relationships with state departments on behalf of the provider network for support in transforming the SUD treatment system statewide.
Participants will explore how treatment provider representatives and state leaders worked together to create a plan to modernize the SUD treatment system into a medical focused, evidence-based, outcomes driven program.
Lessons learned from a treatment provider's participation in the program redesign and how they implemented the ASAM Criteria within their organization.
