How did the peers and the recovery movement evolve into their current roles? What challenges do they face as they become part of the behavioral health treatment team? What lies ahead in the future for peers and how they will need to adapt to the changing behavioral health care landscape? Learn from a person with lived experience about their personal journey and how their work as a peer has shaped them personally and professionally.

Learning Objectives:

Describe the historical roots of peers and the recovery movement and how peers have been long been used in other areas of health care.
Participants will be able to explain the challenges Peers experience from inside behavioral health organizations and from external sources that are philosophically opposed to Peers working in behavioral health organizations
List three ways to improve peers' roles in behavioral health organizations and three opportunities for future growth in a changing healthcare environment.
