Mary Naoum (MSW, MPP) is a consultant with the Policing Alternatives & Diversion Initiative (PAD), supporting planning related to the expansion of non-police, consent-based mental health crisis response in Fulton County, Georgia. Mary has over 10 years of experience working with communites disproportionately impacted by overpolicing and incarceration. She is most energized when supporting initiatives that move forward tangible, community-driven solutions that are boldly designed to transform local systems. Mary managed Atlanta/Fulton County's successful collaborative pre-arrest diversion pilot initiative, facilitating collaboration between local criminal legal system agencies to reduce legal barriers for program participants, as well as training and engaging law enforcement to utilize diversion as a key strategy in promoting community safety. Most recently, Mary supported the development of a Detroit-based social justice fund, helping steward a community-defined grantmaking strategy focused on moving significant resources to community organizing led by Black, Indigenous, and people of color. Mary received her Master’s Degrees in Social Work and Public Policy from the University of Michigan, and currently lives in Atlanta, Georgia.
