John A. Potter, III, is a licensed clinical social worker at Rushford Center, Inc. in Meriden, Conn. He graduated from the University of Connecticut School of Social Work in 2017 with a concentration in mental health and substance use. Potter is currently the clinical program manager for the Meriden Opioid Referral for Recovery (MORR) program and the Meriden Early Diversion, Referral, and Retention (MERR) project out of Rushford's Crisis Department. Both programs are grant-funded through Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). Each program is partnered with the City of Meriden and with Meriden first responders designed to assist community members who have recently experienced an overdose and with severe and persistent mental illness. In addition to managing both programs, he helps as a mobile crisis clinician providing crisis intervention services to the local community. He is a former member of the United States Marine Corps having done one tour to Afghanistan in 2011 during Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF).
