Derrick Sanders is a Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) National Trainer working to certify new Instructors in the MHFA curriculums. He is a certified Instructor in Mental Health First Aid for the Adult and Youth Curriculum and holds module designations in specific areas of training for Public Safety, Fire/EMS, Veterans and Military members and their families, Older Adults, Higher Education, and Rural. Each of these disciplines have specific cultural areas to highlight, discuss and facilitate. Derrick is certified to offer the core curriculums in the newest blended formats.
Sanders is a retired deputy sheriff from the Clark County Illinois Sheriff’s Office where he provided more than 18 years of service of law enforcement. During his service Derrick was a certified juvenile officer, a certified Crisis Intervention Team member and has been certified as a hostage negotiator with designations of Phase I, II and III. All these areas of training specifically tailor his qualifications to those in need, with a special emphasis on those with Mental Health challenges. Saunders was also the Clark County UAS Drone Pilot. In addition to his civilian law enforcement experience he served on active duty in the United States Army in the Military Police Corp for almost five years. While serving in that capacity Derrick participated in two combat deployments to Southwest Asia, earning several honorable military awards and decorations throughout his military service. Sanders is currently a full-time student at the University of Louisville, Kent School of Social Work.
Sanders is a certified instructor for the QPR Institute, which is the most widely taught gatekeeper training for suicide prevention in the world. He has previously been a Chamber of Commerce nominee for the Community Service Award, is an appointed board member of the Clark County Illinois 708 Mental Health Board, an appointed member of the Clark County Local Emergency Planning Committee and an elected Township Trustee for Wabash Township in Clark County Illinois. Derrick is the owner of Alliance Community Training, LLC, designated as a “Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business” by the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs and recognized by the U.S. Small Business Administration. Alliance Community Training conducts community level mental health related training courses throughout his community, region and across the nation.
