Helen Teresa (Trez) Buckland, MEd, PhD is a retired Clinical Assistant Professor in Nursing and Public Health from the University of Washington and a retired educatior and counselor, grades K-12.. Her passion in retirement is her family - her husband, an adult son with schizophrenia who lives with them, three other married children and five grandchildren. She also volunteers to promote recovery for individuals with mental illness and for their families and friends. Her volunteer work includes being a Family Ambassador with the Psychosis Reach program at the University of Washington, running groups to help family members increase their coping and communication skills with their loved one who experiences psychosis and volunteering with the National Alliance on Mental Illness. She collaborates with young adults who have been diagnosed with schizophrenia and schizoaffective disorder. Together they create and run social support groups which focus on their strengths. She also runs NAMI Family Support Groups, is a state trainer for NAMI Family Support Groups and the NAMI Ending the Silence program and facilitates workshops for the NAMI Smarts for Advocacy program.
