Carolyn Rekerdres, MD, is an adult community psychiatrist and expert in clinical innovation. After growing up in a rural county in Texas she trained at UT Southwestern Medical Center in psychiatry and has focused her career on advancing evidence based treatments for patients with severe and persistent mental illness with a more recent focus specifically on rural and underserved populations. Dr. Rekerdres has expertise ACT psychiatry, emergency psychiatry, inpatient psychiatry, homeless psychiatry and administrative psychiatry in the past. She began utilizing telepsychiatry in 2016 and has been a national leader in telemedicine applications to address workforce shortage. She is currently the Medical Director for the NE region of ETBHN which is an innovative telehealth cooperative of mental health centers in Texas.
Throughout her career, Dr. Rekerdres developed a talent for treating "difficult" patients and uses those same skills when taking on "difficult" systems. Clinical work continues to be at the heart of her work and Dr. Rekerdres leads an ACT team that spans 5 rural counties in Texas, a rural assisted outpatient treatment program and a rural first episode psychosis program. She is also a clinical advisor for Cloud 9 Telehealth and a national leader in discussions surrounding utlizing telemedication applications to address equity and quality in community mental health.
