How is 988's purpose, structure and function different than 911 and how will it help us create equitable access to care for people in mental health and suicidal crisis on a national basis? Effective crisis intervention services at 988 centers and mobile outreach teams can help reduce unnecessary police encounters and transports to emergency department or criminal justice facilities. Find out about the current state of the Lifeline/988 service, preparations for the official 988 launch in July 2022 and continuing efforts to coordinate 911 and mobile crisis team (MCT) services with 988.
