A recent national survey found that 68% of youth identified health care providers as the most trusted messengers for conversations on substance use prevention. However, as you know, engaging youth in authentic conversations related to health behaviors – especially substance use -- can be challenging. Getting Candid: Framing the Conversation Around Youth Substance Use Prevention Message Guide and Toolkit tackles those issues to help providers engage in authentic conversations with youth about substance use prevention.

Learning Objectives:

Identify the impact of COVID-19 on youth mental wellbeing and substance use.
Examine from a young person about the discrepancies between youth and provider perceptions impacting prevention communication.
Recognize best practices for building rapport and trust with youth when delivering messages and discussing health related behaviors.
Frame conversations and deliver meaningful substance use prevention messages to youth.
