Spirituality is a vital component of treatment and prevention efforts, but it is underutilized in the treatment and prevention of mental illness. We will outline the theoretical foundations for the ethical integration of spiritually-based interventions into mental health treatment and provide examples of concrete, holistic, ethically sound interventions and practices recognizing a broad range of spiritual expressions in our clients. We’ll also address the need for practices and interventions that communicate acceptance, respect and inclusion of diverse populations.

The difference between spirituality, religion and faith in mental health treatment.
Participants will be able to demonstrate an understanding of the theoretical foundations of the ethical integration of spiritually based interventions into mental health treatment.
How to build spiritually-based, ethically sound holistic mental health interventions integrating the essential elements of consent, collaboration, connection and compassion.
