Contractors cannot afford to waste time on home assessments that don’t lead to projects. With new virtual tactics, contractors can break the process into parts, thereby “squeezing down” the soft costs of securing home performance project sale. Soft costs, which include customer acquisition, pre-assessment and assessment work can account for 50% or more of the total project costs. Faced with aggressive climate action goals, NYSERDA must rapidly scale home performance services to reach approximately 200,000 homes per year to meet a decarbonization objectives. In this context, as well as from an interest in assisting contractors during the economic downturn and stay-at-home orders during the COVID-19 pandemic, NYSERDA issued a Remote/Virtual Energy Audit Challenge. The Challenge engages home performance contractors on low/no touch energy assessment practices and energy audit product and service providers in testing deployment of scalable strategies to provide homeowners with actionable information as well as connect them with qualified contractors. Come hear how remote and virtual energy audit tools and techniques can help contractors prioritize leads, increase customer engagement, improve business efficiency, and onboard new staff.
