Director, Home Improvement and Building Performance Center
Opportunity Council
Bellingham, Washington
Ross Quigley is Director of the Home Improvement Department and Building Performance Center (BPC*) at Opportunity Council in Bellingham, WA. Home Improvement’s programs all have a strong focus on weatherization and residential energy efficiency.
How does one get into weatherization?
After graduating with an art degree from Western Washington University, Ross worked as a dishwasher, factory worker, security guard, cellar worker at a brewery, habitat restoration worker, farmworker, window washer, and carpenter before discovering weatherization, and working through the ranks from installer to auditor and later program manager of a whole-house-retrofit home performance program.
(quote)
“What I love about working in weatherization is seeing how determined we all are to solve problems and improve the quality of people’s lives in their homes. We follow the lessons of building science and fix up houses to help them better retain heat in the winter– saving people money, and making their homes more comfortable, safe, durable, and energy efficient. We value experimentation, and continuous learning and improvement. Our work benefits people and the planet!”
*BPC is the job skills training provider for all of Washington’s 27 weatherization programs and their contractors. We also provide weatherization and home performance training throughout the US.
