Have you wondered why certain areas of the building are more prone to ice dams or why HVAC costs are more on one building over another? All buildings have locations where conditioned air can escape the building, while some buildings are much worse than others. This two-part presentation is designed to clarify common locations of multifamily building air barrier failings and what can be done about it. Part 1: We will describe traditional diagnostic methods utilized to discover energy and building integrity driven air sealing. Procedures and processes that are available to tighten up existing multifamily buildings will be shared. Part 2: What about a new approach? Aerosol sealing has been shown to reduce the envelope leakage of new houses and multifamily units by up to 80%. Learn how a recent DOE funded project is showing that aerosol envelope sealing can be applied to existing buildings. It is even being used to seal leaks from the attic without disturbing residents.
