Contractor participation is essential to shell and mechanical measures. Convincing contractors to participate often requires a change to their business model. Convincing plumbers to install heat pump water heaters or convincing HVAC contractors to size their systems can be very challenging. Overcoming the “I’m making money now, why should I change the way I do things?” mindset is difficult, especially when labor shortages challenge every contractor.
This session will examine different methods to secure contractor participation and change their standard operating procedures. The session will focus on methods that don’t rely on “buying” their participation, but instead focus on understanding their business model and how program participation will alter it. Hint: Not all contractors are good program participants.
