The push to fully electrify multifamily housing is coming fast! How does electrification impact design and cost? What are implications for owners and tenants? An integrated design approach can help teams plan effectively to adopt these new approaches in projects.
Participants in this interactive workshop will be introduced to a key green building tool, integrated design, and then use that tool to assess the key issues that need to be considered in planning for electrification. Working in small groups, participants will apply integrated design principles to a case study based on a real multifamily housing project through a structured, practice-based activity. The groups will develop an integrated design strategy and identify design options for electrification. Then, we will come back together to share the ideas generated by the groups and explore how integrated design can be used as a tool to increase the odds for success in adopting new technologies. Ideas generated by the groups for the case study project will be considered in terms of the benefits provided, technical feasibility, cost implications, and operations issues. This session will be led by leading green practitioner and educator Kimberly Vermeer.

Work in small groups, using a multifamily development electrification case study, to identify the roles and skills to include in an integrated design process to implement building electrification
Develop a set of potential electrification strategies and technologies and discuss how they would be considered through an integrated design process
