Supporting the Building Performance Workforce

The work can’t wait. Workforce development issues consistently ranks as a top concern for the building performance industry. We need to train and equip our workforce today. Potential workers often lack awareness of and pathways to career opportunities in home performance, HVAC, and weatherization jobs. Businesses struggle to attract, hire, and retain employees. For the U.S. building workforce to be a global leader in delivering quality efficiency products and services to American residents and businesses, we must support a strong green buildings workforce that can rise to the challenge.

• DOE will highlight its initiatives that support the building performance workforce with the Better Buildings Workforce Accelerator, workforce awards programs, and the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA). DOE will also discuss the Justice40 initiative and efforts to specifically deliver economic and clean energy benefits to disadvantaged communities.

• BPA staff will present an overview of the Association’s strategic plan to support a prosperous building performance workforce. We will review BPA’s training tools and resources related to implementation of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA).
