Ezra Steiger MD is a Consultant for the Digestive Diseaase and Surgery Institute at Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland Ohio. He did his surgical residency at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania and worked with Stanley Dudrick MD in the development of Total Parenteral Nutrition (TPN). After his service in the Air Force where he was Chief of General Surgery at Keesler Air Force Base he joined the Department of General Surgery at Cleveland Clinic in 1975. He founded the Cleveland Clinic Nutrition Support Team, its Home Parenteral Nutrition Program and the Intestinal Rehabilitation Program.
He was President of the medical staff at Cleveland Clinic, President of the Cleveland Surgical Society, President of the Ohio Chapter of the American College of Surgeons and President of the American Society of Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition (ASPEN)
His research in parenteral nutrition in the hospital and home and in the management of patients with short bowel syndrome continues to the present.. He has been an author of over 260 scientific articles and book chapters mostly related to parenteral nutrition in the hospital and home and short bowel syndrome and intestinal failure. He is an Emeritus Professor of Surgery in the Department of General Surgery at Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio.
