The COVID-19 pandemic has fundamentally changed sterile compounding. Sterile compounding entities have experience managing drug shortages, but over the last two years they were tasked with navigating shortages in personal protective equipment (PPE), compounding supplies, and cleaning/disinfecting agents. Fortunately, USP and other other organizations provided some guidance. However, there were still many operational concerns to be addressed. This session provides suggestions on handling visitors, drafting and implementing contingency plans, and managing shortages.
Learning Objectives:
Identify improvement opportunities in your practice related to shortages and unexpected events.
Discuss options for how to manage visitors to the sterile compounding cleanroom suite.
List the industry resources available to aid in standard operating procedure (SOP) development.
