My name is Genesee Hornung, MSN, RN, CNS, CPNP-PC and I am a Clinical Nurse Specialist at Children's Wisconsin. I have spent the last 19 years working with neonates in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) in the capacities of a bedside nurse, Patient Care Supervisor, and Clinical Nurse Specialist. My specific area of interest is CLABSI prevention. I have been the chair of our NICU Central Line Associated Bloodstream Infection (CLABSI) team for 7 years, and four years ago I took on the role as co-chair of the hospital-wide CLABSI group. I have led our team in the rollout of several nursing practice change initiatives related to CLABSI prevention and presented my work in a poster at several local and national conferences. Our unit has seen positive outcomes from these changes, as evidenced by increased compliance in our CLABSI maintenance bundle, and decreased overall CLABSI infection rates.
