The United States healthcare financing models have changed dramatically over the past decade with accelerated transformation each year. The desire for high quality and financially sustainable healthcare is driving these changes. Healthcare providers, now, must clearly prove their value to thrive in this environment. Our field has made some initial attempts at understanding how the neuropsychological evaluation impacts quality outcomes (e.g., more accurate diagnosis) and/or financial metrics (e.g., reducing cost of care) but we need much more robust research to be competitive (Glenn et al., 2020). This talk will take a page from business school and use a business case example to show the value of neuropsychology in a health system. By using this business case, neuropsychologists will have concrete strategies to clearly articulate the value of our services.
Learning Objectives:
Describe the current financial transformation in healthcare and implications for neuropsychologists
Identify three types of neuropsychology practice models and know which model aligns best with their health system
Discuss financial and value metrics and how to measure and report our financial value
