Gary K Herberger Young Scholars Academy, Arizona
Sam Eddis, PhD has taught in schools in Hong Kong, London, and Arizona. Since 2012, she has been working with gifted and talented students at Gary K Herberger Young Scholars Academy in Arizona. She started homeschooling her eldest child in 2000, and spent the next twenty years educating her four children through high school, either part-time or full-time, as they accessed the local high school for electives or classes. Her experiences as a multiple-subject teacher of Cambridge IGCSEs* and A Levels**; as a high school teacher and online tutor; and as a home educating facilitator have helped her understand how homeschooling and traditional or online schools can create the best fit for some children. Though a hybrid education is not available in every state, Sam gives talks on how parents and children could consider the possibilities.
Sam also actively researches the field of home education, hybrid learning and online education for high school students, especially home educated students or gifted and talented students who need a non-traditional education. The seismic shift to online education during the pandemic years is of particular research interest, as more studens and families have asked how to navigate non-traditional education routes.
After more than forty years in education, Sam still enjoys teaching and learning, and helping others succeed with their educational journeys.
