Educational Consultant
Pieces of Learning, Illinois
Dodie Merritt has been working in the field of education for over 35 years, teaching at the primary, secondary, and university levels with a focus on gifted education. She is known for co-authoring the Primary Education Thinking Skills series, used in classrooms around the world. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Mount Holyoke College, her teacher certification from Northern Illinois University, and her Masters in Teaching and Leadership from St. Xavier University in Illinois.
As an educational consultant, Dodie has presented at the national, state, and local levels throughout the United States as well as internationally at the World Conferences on Gifted and Talented Children on a wide range of topics, including curriculum differentiation, higher level thinking and questioning strategies, and gifted education. She authored Independent Study: Where Creative Minds Expand for older primary students in addition to co-authoring other educational materials published by Pieces of Learning.
When not traveling about the world as much as possible, Dodie lives in the middle of an Illinois cornfield with her husband of 40 years, a retired high school biology teacher who raises tilapia on their farmette. Their son teaches at NIU while their daughter has a third grade classroom in NH. Apparently, being in education is hereditary!
