Lead Gifted and Talented Teacher

Melanie J. Lichtenstein, Ph.D., is a specialist in talent development, equity and access for excluded groups, and culturally responsive education. Her areas of research are culturally responsive teaching practices, educational advocacy, systems change, assets-based teaching and learning, and talent development practices. She has presented nationally and regionally on culturally responsive teaching, underrepresentation, and curriculum design for culturally responsive teaching in gifted education. Recently she has relocated to the Low-Country of South Carolina and is proud to serve the historic community of St. Helena Island in Beaufort County Schools. She has served on the Virginia Advisory Committee for the Education of the Gifted, the Virginia Association of Gifted, and with the Virginia Coordinators of the Gifted. She is proud to return to South Carolina, where she was a teacher of the gifted prior to pursuing her Ph.D. in Educational Planning, Policy, and Leadership from William and Mary.
