In her 30 plus years as a Baltimore City Schools educator, Joyce Jackson has been privileged to work with students and teachers in a variety of K-5 settings. She has worked as a classroom teacher, Academic Support Coach, Teacher Mentor and for the last 6 years, has served as a Gifted and Advanced Learning Educational Specialist. Joyce has had a huge impact on student and teacher learning.
Her professional passion is working with students and staff to build authentic Learning experiences. She Leads professional Development aligned to a wide variety of educational and instructional techniques and practices.
Joyce has received various awards for excellence in education. Most recently, she received the Outstanding Gifted Educator Award, from the Council for Gifted and Talented Education and the Maryland Department of Education, in February 2020.
One of her favorite aspects of her role as an Educational Specialist is coordinating The Talent Mentorship Program with the University of Maryland School of Medicine (UMSOM) which provides mentoring services in the field of Science for over 125 third and fourth grade Gifted and Advanced Learning students for 6 years. The Program has been presented at the Maryland Educators for Gifted Students (MEGS) conference, in 2020.
