Laura Beltchenko has a long standing career in public education which includes classroom teacher, reading specialist, teacher and coordinator of gifted education programs as well as an associate superintendent of curriculum and instruction. She served her community of Libertyville, Illinois on the local school board for 24 years and is now a board of trustee member for Lincoln College in Lincoln, Illinois. She is the past chair of the Early Childhood Network of the National Association for Gifted Children and current co-chair of the NAGC Development Committee. She chairs the Gifted Education Advisory Council for the Illinois State Board of Education. As a Friend for the Center for Teaching Through Children’s Books at National Louis University, she supports professional development efforts in the area of advancing the use of children’s literature and related literacy topics for educators and librarian’s both public and school. Her study of children’s literature finds her developing thoughtful in-service for educators with the intent of addressing the needs of young and diverse learners. She has a strong background in staff development and is a state and national speaker on the topics of literacy development, and use children’s picture books.
