Associate Professor University of West Georgia, Georgia
Short description:If you are a teacher in just about any classroom, public or private, odds are good that: 1) you teach gifted and talented students, and 2) you didn’t get information about gifted students in your preservice education. Teaching children with high abilities can be challenging if you don't understand who they are and what they need. Very few educators are required to complete gifted education courses within their undergraduate or graduate coursework. This engaging, interactive pre-convention session is designed to start filling the gaps!
Learning Outcomes: Participants will:
Define the areas of giftedness
Explore the cognitive, social, and emotional characteristics of advanced learners
Learn today’s best practices in equitable identification and access
Examine services for gifted children including acceleration, enrichment, and differentiation
