Short description: Autonomous vehicles are the future of transportation, with enormous potential in environmental sustainability and driver safety. Curricula focused on autonomous cars offer a range of learning opportunities for STEM classrooms, from coding to social-emotional learning (SEL) themes. This session presents curriculum from a federally-funded project aimed at providing STEM enrichment opportunities integrated with SEL for gifted students from underrepresented groups.
Learning Outcomes: Participants will:
Identify ways to create STEM curricula for middle schoolers around themes of autonomous driving technology
Learn best practices to support students' transitions from block-based to text-based programming
Learn to foster student confidence and interest in computer coding classes and possible computer programming careers
