Short description: Supportive and affirming classroom communities are critical to the well-being of advanced learners who are either trans or gender-nonconforming. This session assists teachers of advanced academics in developing both the language and the capacity to engage in inclusive instructional practices that foster acceptance and support for gender-diverse students.
Learning Outcomes: Participants will:
Learn the basics of gender identity and expression, including related nomenclature and appropriate terminology
Understand the necessity of incorporating inclusive and affirming language when addressing and discussing transgender and gender-nonconforming students
Develop skills for creating safe and supportive environments for transgender and gender-nonconforming students
