Associate Professor Western Kentucky University School of Education, Kentucky
Short description: This presentation shares results from an action research study that sought to transform elementary education for underrepresented advanced students by improving the identification and support of those who showed high potential for advanced mathematics. A summer STEM camp, after-school clubs, and teacher professional development resulted in significant increases of students enrolling in advanced mathematics classes.
Learning Outcomes: Participants will:
Learn how university researchers and school district partners collaborated to increase participation of underrepresented gifted learners in advanced mathematics through teacher professional development, STEM summer camps, and after-school enrichment clubs
Learn about how the partnership was forged, identification of potential students, and the research that informed the camp and clubs
