Short description: While educators, practitioners, and parents often understand the benefits of engagement that may be met via acceleration, advanced curriculum is only one piece of the acceleration puzzle. Considering issues ranging from social-emotional needs to environmental (exogenous) factors to psychosocial (endogenous) characteristics, this practical “how to” session empowers attendees to support the intellectual, emotional, and developmental needs of accelerated students.
Learning Outcomes: Participants will:
Gain a better understanding of the spectrum of struggles that accelerated students face in real life
Learn coping mechanisms to empower students in all spheres (not only academic achievement)
Move forward with confidence to support accelerated students via realistic examples and workshopping/discussion
