Allen M. McFarlane is the Assistant Vice President for Outreach & Engagement in the NYU Office of the Senior Vice President for Student Affairs. With more than 30 years of service in the field of higher education service, Allen has amassed a notable list of accomplishments, achievement and recognition. He has championed innovation for nationally recognized, award-winning Student Affairs units in the areas of student life, diversity, alumni relations, career development and innovative projects.
Within Allen’s range of responsibilities, is the NYU International Student Meeting Initiative (ISM) program. With more 1,500 international students interviewed, the program provides student affairs units, colleagues and faculty with recommendations in support of international student life success and community building at NYU. He also serves as chair for the subcommittee on Global Cultural Competency and Language Initiatives a component of the NYU Professional Development Committee for Students Affairs; a member of the Internationalizing Washington Square All-University Committee; and the NYU Veterans Working Group. In 2015, his article, “Lessons Learned: Internationalization and the Role of Student Affairs Professionals,” was published in the "Journal of Student Affairs in Africa."
An adjunct faculty member in the NYU Department of Social and Cultural Analysis, Allen conceived and co-developed an academic course with Dr. Candice Collins, NYU; and Dr. Yolanda Sealy, Columbia University, entitled Black Diversity Contributions to America. A veteran of the United States Air Force, upon his honorable discharge at the rank of Sergeant, he returned to New York and enrolled at New York University. He holds undergraduate degrees in Social Sciences from School of Professional Studies and a graduate degree in Student Personnel Administration from the Steinhardt School of Culture, Education and Human Development.
