Assistant Director Of International Student Advising
University Of Washington -Seattle Campus
Sharece began working as the Assistant Director of International Student Advising at University of Washington in October 2020. She says that her interest in cultural and ethnic diversity stemmed from growing up in Dayton, Oregon where she learned from peers who migrated to and from Mexico with the seasons. Sharece received her BA in English from Northwest Nazarene University where she took advantage of two study abroad experiences to England. Following her undergraduate experience, Sharece moved to Ukraine as a Peace Corps Volunteer, teaching English and learning the Ukrainian language. After earning a MS in Journalism from the University of Oregon, Sharece moved back to Ukraine where she taught English and pedagogy to third and fourth year students at Ternopil National Pedagogical University (TNPU). Her time at TNPU had reignited a love for higher education, so Sharece pursued an EdM in College Student Services Administration at Oregon State University when she returned to the United States in 2012. Sharece is very interested in social justice education and research and has looked for many opportunities to contribute to the field including presenting at the Whiteness History Month at Portland Community College in April 2016. In her spare time, Sharece enjoys reading, writing, and spending time with friends.
