Interim Dean, Director of the International Center, & Assistant Professor

Leigh Poole currently serves as the interim dean for University College, the director of the International Center at Winthrop University, and as an assistant professor. As Winthrop’s senior international officer, Dr. Poole is responsible for leading campus-wide internationalization including the integration of global learning into the curriculum, the creation and support of institutional and bilateral exchange agreements, and providing a variety of opportunities for student mobility. Prior to this position she worked as the director of International Student Life at the University of Georgia where she also earned a Ph.D. Poole received her master’s degree from the University of South Carolina and a bachelor’s degree from Wofford College. She has studied higher education as a Fulbright Scholar in France, Germany, and South Korea and was selected as a Presidential Scholar by the Association of International Education Administrators (AIEA). Dr. Poole has presented frequently at a variety of conferences and has also held several leadership positions within NAFSA: Association of International Educators. She currently serves on the national board for AIEA. Dr. Poole studied overseas in the Dominican Republic and Mexico and her research interests center around the internationalization of U.S. higher education.
