Frank Peters is the Director of Iowa State’s Study Abroad Center and is Associate Professor and the C.G. ‘Turk” and Joyce A. Therkildsen Professor of Industrial and Manufacturing Systems Engineering Department at Iowa State University. He was actively involved in study abroad in his college since 2000 and named the Director of ISU's Study Abroad Center in 2019. He teaches courses in manufacturing processes and system improvements; manufacturing system improvements has been the central theme of his research. He also has 35 years of experience as a firefighter and EMT achieving the rank of Captain of the Ankeny Fire Department. Dr. Peters received his B.S., M.S. and Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering with a Ph.D. minor in Metals Science and Engineering from the Pennsylvania State University. He has received his department’s teaching award four times, the College of Engineering Superior Teaching award, the Board of Regent’s Award for Faculty Excellence, and was twice recognized by the Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineering for learning innovations. He cahired the University Response Team (for COVID19) for its 20 months.
