Dr. Lauren Nehlsen is the Associate Dean of Recruitment, Outreach Services, and Global Engagement at Elgin Community College and former President of the Illinois Consortium for International Studies and Programs. Active in the field since 2003, Lauren has lived in Australia, England, Canada, and Russia, and holds a B.A. in Communications from Truman State University, an M.A. in Diplomatic Studies/International Relations from the University of Westminster (UK), and a Ph.D. in Higher Education Administration from Illinois State University. She has presented at numerous local, state, and national conferences on the importance of campus internationalization, crisis management in education abroad, supporting and engaging students from diverse backgrounds, and best pratices in international and domestic enrollment management. Dr. Nehlsen is a published scholar-pratitioner and was featured in the NAFSA Research Symposium Series Volume 4 highlighting research entitled Seeking Global Citizenship: Perceptions of Community College Educators in a Short-Term International Exchange Program. Dr. Nehlsen is an advocate for the development of international partnerships that encourage global awareness, mutual understanding, and providing opportunities for students, faculty, and scholars to engage with a global society.
