Darla K. Deardorff, EdD, is Executive Director of the Association of International Education Administrators (AIEA). She is also a Research Scholar at Duke University and holds faculty appointments at several institutions including North Carolina State University, Nelson Mandela University, and Shanghai International Studies University. She has taught at Harvard's Future of Learning Institute, Harvard's Global Education Think Tank as well as at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, Middlebury Institute for International Studies, and Thammasat University. She has conducted cross-cultural training for universities, companies, and nonprofit organizations for the past 20 years and has given talks and workshops by invitation at national and international conferences, including recent engagements in Thailand, S. Africa, and China. Her intercultural competence models are used worldwide in a variety of institutions and programs and she consults with UNESCO and OECD on these topics. In addition, she has published 50+ articles and book chapters on international education, intercultural competence and assessment. She is editor of the “Sage Handbook of Intercultural Competence,” featuring leading intercultural scholars from around the world, co-editor with Hans de Wit of the “Sage Handbook of International Higher Education,” along with six other books.
