A seasoned leader in higher education, John has successfully served in positions of broad responsibility in urban North American institutions. He is highly skilled in program growth and innovation, especially in areas that provide enhanced access to returning adult, international and online learners. He is dedicated to the notion that a strategy of institutional growth coupled with quality enhancement is essential to the lifeblood and sustainability of an institution of higher learning. His research interests include alternative credentialing, the learning to employment transition and educational start-ups.
John was appointed in 2018 as Clark’s Dean of the School of Professional Studies and Associate Provost of Professional Education. John also holds the academic title of Professor of the Practice. Prior to joining Clark, John served as Professor of the Graduate School of Education and as an affiliated faculty member in the Center for the Future of Higher Education and Talent Strategy at Northeastern University. John has served as an educator, administrator, consultant and higher education leader. He pioneered the launch of Northeastern University’s first international campus in Toronto, Ontario. John first joined Northeastern University in Boston as a senior teaching fellow in the Graduate School of Education in 2009, before serving as dean College of Professional Studies (CPS), one of the largest schools of professional education in the country. Under his leadership, LaBrie expanded CPS’s focus as a premium destination for professional graduate education, international and online education.
John's Canadian experience also includes work with Simon Fraser University as Dean of Continuing Studies (2005-2009). John received his doctorate from the University of Pennsylvania in 2004 and a Master’s degree from St. Michael’s College in Vermont.
