Katie Bowler Young has been a higher education, partnership, and communications leader for 20 years. She is currently assistant dean for communications, marketing, and business development at Duke University School of Nursing. From 2011 until 2021, she led global relations and global programs and partnerships at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Prior, she led communications at UNC School of Law and Tulane University School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine, where she was editor of Global Health magazine. Katie received a 2021 North Carolina Governor’s Award for Excellence in the category of Outstanding Government Service for her work to rapidly launch collaborative online international learning (COIL) at UNC-Chapel Hill during the COVID-19 pandemic. Young is also an educator and author. Her most recent book is "Enrique Alférez: Sculptor," featured in a National Endowment for the Arts podcast and a finalist for the 2021 Housatonic Book Award. She has taught undergraduate creative writing at Warren Wilson College and digital writing at Tulane University, and for ten years led an internship program for students to gain professional skills in international affairs and writing across cultures, geographies, and societies.
