Karen Sykes is the Associate Director for the Office of Global Education at Goucher College, located just outside of Baltimore. Karen has worked in higher education for more than 20 years, from a large, state university to an online platform to a small, private, liberal arts institution. The majority of her career has been spent working directly with international students, immigrants and Americans who have lived abroad. She has advised international students on culture shock and cultural competency, immigration regulations, the American classroom environment, and how to successfully navigate the college campus and U.S. agencies. She taught English in Japan and holds a master’s degree in higher education administration from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
